The Chair of Russian Language and Culture is engaging in activities related to the following three fields in order to achieve its goals:

  1. Field of education
  2. Field of research
  3. International scientific cooperation

 

Field of Education

Its curriculum includes courses related to Russian language, history and culture.

Courses run for one semester, with 3 hours of lessons per week. They are offered as free electives to all AUTH students, who are awarded ECTS credits. Assessment involves either an oral or written exam and/or the preparation and presentation of thematic coursework.

Courses are assigned codes through the Undergraduate Study Programme of the School of German Language and Literature, which the Chair administratively belongs to and lessons are held in classrooms belonging to the Faculty of Philosophy.

Each semester, about 220 students from all AUTH Faculties attend courses run by the Chair of Russian Language and Culture.

Along with lectures, the Chair also takes an active part in other activities and events, as presented below:   

  • Attendance by students of the bilingual Meeting “The role of Russia in the creation of the Greek state”,  a tribute to the bicentennial of the Greek Revolution in 1821. The event was organised remotely on 26 March 2021 in Kuban, Russia, within the framework of the tributes to “2021 Russia-Greece Cross History Year”, by the Department of Modern Greek Philology of Kuban State University, under the auspices of the General Consulate of Cyprus in Krasnodar and with the support of the General Consulate of Greece in Novorossiysk.
  • Student participation in the educational event “Тотальный диктант”, which takes place once a year in hundreds of cities in Russia and the world at the same time. The event in the city of Thessaloniki is organised under the auspices of the General Consulate of Russia in Thessaloniki.

  • Annual group visit and open class at a Russian restaurant in Thessaloniki, where students get to know the Russian cuisine, which is a major part of Russian culture.
  • Participation of 18 students from the Chair in the distance learning courses of Lomonosov Moscow State University, in the framework of the Masterclass in Russian as a Foreign Language that took place from 30 November to 18 December 2020.

  • Presentation by Ms Maria Pristavkina, a student of the Chair and daughter of the distinguished Soviet author Anatoly Pristavkin, about the literary and social work of her father, on 15 May 2020.
  • Five students from the Chair were chosen to take part in the International Youth Forum “#POINT OF VIEW.2020” in Moscow, which was dedicated to the Year of Memory on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of “Victory in the Great Patriotic War”. The visit from 13-16 April 2020 was funded by the Federal national-cultural autonomy of the Greeks in Russia, whose President is Mr Ivan Savvidis. The forum was cancelled, due to the pandemic.
  • Presentation by Mr Ioannis Mitrou, teacher at the School of Visual and Applied Arts, AUTH, of the work of Soviet director Andrey Tarkovsky on 16 December 2019.
  • Presentation on 6 November 2019 by the Russian poet and translator of literary works, Ms Xenia Kalaitzidou, of “February Diary” by the poet O. Bergholz, which she has translated, in the framework of the lesson on the siege of Leningrad during World War II.

  • Visit to the State Museum of Contemporary Art - Kostakis Collection (MOMus) in Thessaloniki on 5 November 2019, where the Chair’s students were given a tour of the exhibition of works by Lyubov Popova, one of the greatest representatives of the Russian avant-garde.

  • Attendance of 4-week Russian Language Summer School in August 2019 by students of the Chair, that was organised in Moscow by the Institute of Russian Language and Culture of Lomonosov Moscow State University, with the financial support of “Ivan Savvidis Charitable Foundation”.

  • Participation of students at the official opening of “Greek-Russian Year of Language and Literature” on 9 May 2019, which took place in the framework of the 16th International Book Fair of Thessaloniki; tour of the Russian booth, featuring over 1,000 books from 60 Russian publishers.
  • Attendance of the theatrical performance “Uncle Vanya” by A. Chekhov on 2 February 2019.
  • Presentation by Ms Aggeliki Delikari, Assistant Professor of Ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Medieval History, School of History and Archaeology, AUTH, on the topic “Kiev’s Russia” to the students during the spring semester of 2018.
  • Attendance of the theatrical performance “The Inspector General” by N. Gogol on 27 May 2018.
  • Attendance of the theatrical event “The Story of V.M. – A Man with a Yellow Blouse” on 21st February and 1st March 2018.
  • Screenings of contemporary Russian films at the Russian Film Festival, 5-9 May 2017.
