The Chair of Russian Language and Culture was established in the academic year 2017/2018 and is supported by the “Ivan Savvidis Charitable Foundation”.

In 2016, a Cooperation Agreement was signed between the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the “Ivan Savvidis Charitable Foundation”, within the framework of “2016: Cross-Cultural Year between Greek and Russia”, which, inter alia, provides for the establishment of a Chair of Russian Language and Culture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The main goals of the Chair include the development of educational work and research regarding the Russian language, history and culture, and the strengthening of the existing ties between Greece and Russia and, more specifically, between the Higher Education Institutes of both countries.

By a decision of the Deanship of the Faculty of Philosophy, the Chair of Russian Language and Culture shall administratively form part of the School of German Language and Literature.
